In Hindsight

Last week I posed that: Hindsight is not 20/20.

....At the beginning of this week, I deemed this to be false.

....By the end of this week, I understood this to be true.

To say that hindsight is 20/20: is to foolishly assume

....that we currently have perfect vision.

...that we have the capacity to gauge our own present clarity.

Filled with notions of ‘if only', why do we now believe that we have any idea what we are talking about? Suddenly, everything is so clear. The path is obvious. Apparently, in this present moment we now have perfect insight into the proper handling of the past, confidently regretting the glaring mistakes that had once been made.

What a naive assumption.

This week was a roller coaster of multi-layered disasters.

All I know now is that, in the grand scheme of things, I know nothing.

For, I cannot know more than what I currently know. And what I think I currently know, it is merely a shimmer. An illusion, masked by and limited to what I currently know of it, understood through experience, filtered though a fleeting perception.

I was told that I got one wish.

With all of my heart, I wished that it could be as it once was, that I could undo this change.

I knew that there was nothing in the world I could want more than that.

But perhaps, the place that I was so heartbroken over losing, the place that I pleaded and fought to get back.... perhaps, it was actually a blessing in disguise to have lost.

Because from that heartbreak....

I, angry and upset, sad and fearful, set out to do what must be done, in the name of justice.

But as the road to victory began to reveal itself, everything else also shifted.

...The evil villains, became the helpful aids.

...The unsought situations, toggling as deceitful calamities.

...The confident victims, stripped of formerly unnoticed veils.

......The misguided destruction, teetering on the verge of reality.

Every new understanding, unfolding onto the others, inseparable from the whole, binding their independent origins.

This newly acquired knowledge revealing formerly invisible paths.

And when all was said and done, the place that I ended up...

It was nowhere near where I had first started,

and far from where I had once set out to go.

I was still fighting for the same justice, and yet the road to victory continued to change.

Looking back on my wish, at the place that I was so heartbroken over losing, the place that I pleaded and fought to get back... it all now seems so silly.

For, the tragedy that I thought had been looking at, it was never there at all.

The place is now gone, but the fight was not lost.
